About LaptopCompat
LaptopCompat helps people answer a deceptively difficult question: will this upgrade or accessory actually work with my laptop?
Who runs LaptopCompat
LaptopCompat is an independent, one-person project, launched in August 2026. The same person researches the specifications, writes the compatibility rules, builds and hosts the site, and answers email. It is not owned by, sponsored by or affiliated with any laptop manufacturer, component maker or retailer.
You can reach the operator directly at contact@laptopcompat.com.
Why it exists
Laptop model names, port capabilities and upgrade specifications are spread across manufacturer pages, technical manuals and compatibility matrices, and the same marketing name is often sold with different memory, storage and ports. A wrong guess costs money: a charger that will not charge, memory that does not fit, a game that will not start. LaptopCompat puts those facts in one structured, searchable database, with the source next to each one, and applies written rules to them.
How the data is collected and verified
- Facts come from the manufacturer’s own specification page, then manufacturer PDFs such as manuals and service documentation; secondary sources are used only to corroborate and are labelled. The order is on the methodology page.
- Each fact is stored with its source, the date we retrieved it and how it was extracted. Every page shows its sources and a “Last verified” date.
- Answers come from written, tested rules, not from a language model. AI tools may help read a document; a person checks the result, and AI never decides what is compatible.
- Where a fact cannot be verified, the page says Unknown instead of guessing; a number we calculated is labelled as an estimate (how).
- Sources are re-checked on a schedule and a changed source is reviewed by a person before any number changes (schedule). The full list of publishers is on the sources page.
Independence
We are vendor-neutral. A product is not marked compatible because a retailer sells it or because an affiliate program pays us, and advertising never changes a result. No manufacturer, component maker or retailer sponsors the site.
How the site is funded
LaptopCompat is free to use. It may be supported by advertising (see our privacy policy) and by affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure).
We do not currently earn anything from product links. If affiliate links are added they will work like this: they appear only in clearly marked “Compatible parts” blocks, point to a search for a type of part that matches the laptop’s verified specs rather than a product we picked, are marked as sponsored, and have no effect on any compatibility result. This page and the affiliate disclosure will say so before the first link goes live.
See our methodology for how we verify compatibility, and report a correction if something looks wrong.
