Privacy Policy
LaptopCompat (“we”, “us”) publishes laptop compatibility information at laptopcompat.com. This policy explains what data is collected when you use the site, who collects it, and the choices you have.
No accounts required
You do not need to create an account to search for a laptop or look up compatibility information.
Server logs
Like most websites, our web server records standard request logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser’s user-agent string. We use them to keep the site secure and working and to understand overall traffic. They are deleted automatically after about 14 days.
Search data
When you search, we store a normalized version of your search text and how many results it returned, so we can see which laptops people are looking for and improve coverage. We do not store your IP address, browser identifier, or any other information alongside search records.
Correction submissions
If you submit a correction, we store the page/model referenced, your message, and an email address only if you choose to provide one (so we can follow up). Email is optional and never required to submit a correction.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and which compatibility checks are used). Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) and collects information such as pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location and interactions with the site. We send only structured page and event identifiers to Google Analytics, never the text you type into search. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising and cookies
We use, or may use, Google AdSense to show advertising on this site. When ads are shown:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Third parties may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons and similar technologies, to collect information as a result of ad serving on this site.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.

Before personalized ads are shown to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, those visitors are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent message, and can change that choice at any time.
Affiliate links
Some links to third-party products may in future be affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). Clicking one may set a cookie on the destination site controlled by that merchant, not by us.
Data sharing
We do not sell personal data. Apart from the Google services described above, we do not share data with third parties, and we never share correction-submission email addresses.
Data retention
Server logs are kept for about 14 days. Aggregate search records are retained to inform which models we prioritize verifying and may be periodically pruned. Correction submissions are retained until resolved and for a reasonable period afterward for reference. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention setting of our Analytics property.
Children’s privacy
LaptopCompat is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We will update the “last updated” date above whenever this policy changes materially.
